The Judgment of Paris in 1976 was a groundbreaking wine tasting event where California wines, specifically a Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag's Leap Wine Cellars and a Chardonnay from Chateau Montelena, were judged superior to renowned French wines in a blind tasting. This event significantly changed the perception of American wines and elevated the status of California's wine industry on the global stage.
Chateau Montelena won the Chardonnay/Burgundy competition, and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars won the Cabernet Sauvignon/Bordeaux competition.
